What we did
  • Clarinet
    • Nina and Ray'Niece
      • No instrument (still attempting to attain a CCS Instrument)
  • Flute
    • Began establishing embouchure and producing initial sound on headjoint

  • Trumpets and Trombone (Haleigh No Instrument)
    • Assessed proficiency of performance targets for line 7
      • inaccurate pitches, unfocused tone and time unsteady.
      • Little improvement over several weeks.
      • They are capable of meeting the performance goals but are not working outside of class.
    • Moved ahead to learning targets of reading, understanding and performing half notes and quarter notes in lines 11, 12 and 16; without individual attention to reaching proficiency as needed in line 7, achievement in this area will be difficult

  • Alto Saxophones
    • Assessed proficiency of performance targets in line 12
    • Introduced learning targets of reading, counting and performing quarter notes in line 16

  • Percussion - (Paige and Tyra had instruments; Ray'Niece switching to a CCS Instrument since she is not able to attain an instrument)
    • worked to establish an acceptable bounce stroke in each hand then in alternating strokes.
      • Played line 7-10
      • Played and counted half notes
      • Looked at Lines 12-14

What to do
  • Students need to have instruments
  • Learn lines 1,2, and 4
  • Apply concepts to line 5,6,7 to achieve
    • Correct pitches/fingerings
    • Establish consistent steady tempo
    • Start each note with a "Ha-Too" articulation
    • Begin to establish proper tone quality
    • Establish consistent proper posture
    • Play four half notes in succession on each pitch with proper air stream and articulation

  • learn to count and play music that contains half notes and half rests using Concert D, C and Bb
  • Sustain pitches for 8 counts or longer
